Almost all of us have one or more Bank accounts. We either keep our money in FD (Fixed Deposit) /Savings accounts and we get interests on the capital amount .
Although the interest amount may be small or big, the question arises "what to do with the Interest money which is added by the bank into our account"?
For example I have "Salaried Account" in a Savings Bank (which the employer has opened for me). If I was given the choice I would have definitely opened as "Current Account" (non-interest paying account). But now what should I do ?
I am sure there will be many people ,just like me in various countries and not necessary that they may be aware of the ruling.
Allah Says in Quran,
"O you who believe! Eat not Riba (usury/interest) doubled and multiplied, but fear Allâh that you may be successful." (Imran,3:130)
In that case, What I do ???
After April 1st ( Yearly Closing of bank ), I just check how much money I have received as interest in my account in the entire year.
That interest money I withdraw from the bank and keep it in a different place. I also make sure that it is not be mix with my Halal household money nor is used for my daily expenditure nor for our personal necessities .
I make sure that I spend this money only on poor (either by giving in charity in one go or in phases) WITHOUT the intention of seeking reward from Allah swt, because it is not counted as charity (Sadqat) /Alms (Zakat) etc.
Charity/Zakat only implies from our OWN money/Halal earnings. whereas the interest money ,that banks gives us on our deposit/savings, is in fact NOT ours.
So it is haraam to have and consume it.
Remember, interest money is Haraam . So CANNOT be given to mosque or for other Islamic purpose.
Misconception among muslim ummah :
1: This interest money we can give to masjid to build toilets/abulution rooms/etc.
Answer is NO.
Because it is part of the masjid.
2: Some muftis say in todays age where govt taxes our income , it is acceptable to take/use "Interest Money"
Answer is NO.
Just because 1 or 2 or even if the whole ummah says "haraam" as "halal".... it would be still "haraam".
The haraam ruling has been given not by you or me but by Allah swt in the Quraan
"O you who believe! Be afraid of Allaah and give up what remains (due to you) from Ribaa if you are (really) believers."
(al-Baqarah:278)
And then He WARNS us:
"And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allaah and His Messenger, but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums), and you shall not be dealt with unjustly."
[al-Baqarah:279]
So , if you still want to take interest money then be prepared to have a WAR with Allah swt and his Messenger (pbuh).
Taking of Interest is forbidden by Allah swt.
A.You will be possessed by a Jinn on the Day of Judgment [The Noble Qur'aan, Soorah Al-Baqarah - 2:275]
B. It is a declaration of war with Allaah.
[The Noble Quraan, Soorah Al-Baqarah 2:279]
C.It is a punishment in the grave. You will have you grave turned into a pool of blood and angels will be throwing rocks into you face and that will make you drown. [Saheeh Bukhaari, Volume 2, Book 23, # 468]
D. It is one of the destructive sins.
[Saheeh Bukhaari, Volume 8, Book 82, # 840]
E. The Prophet (peace be upon him) forbade paying/receing it.
[Saheeh Bukhaari, Volume 3, Book 34, # 299]
F. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, "Interest has 70 levels, and the least serious of which is equivalent to a man performing incest (intercourse) with his own mother."
[Saheeh al – Jaami as – Sagheer, Volume 1, #3541]
G. The payer and receiver are cursed.
[Saheeh Muslim, Volume 3, #3881]
"And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allâh and His Messenger but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums), and you shall not be dealt with unjustly (by receiving less than your capital sums)." (Al-Baqara-2:279)
So, We should remove the interest money from our halal income.
Allaah, the Lord of the Worlds is talking....talking to you and me....insignificant little slaves of His... telling us that RIBAA (interest) IS HARAAM!
"O you who believe! Be afraid of Allaah and give up what remains (due to you) from Ribaa if you are (really) believers."
"And if you do not do it, then take a notice of war from Allaah and His Messenger, but if you repent, you shall have your capital sums. Deal not unjustly (by asking more than your capital sums), and you shall not be dealt with unjustly."
Did you read the Ayah carefully?? Maybe, you should read it again!
What does it say??
AT WAR?!! With ALLAH and HIS MESSENGER!!??
Do you even know what it means to be at war with Allaah and His Messenger??
Do you even understand??
The person at war with Allaah and His Messenger will be given a weapon on the Day of Judgment; it will be said to him: "Now fight Allah and His Messenger!!! (Ibn Katheer)
Allaah save us from that !!!!
And yet, we continue to deal in interest....continue to defy the Almighty... continue to satisfy our desires....continue to be at war with Allaah and His Messenger!
Where are we going??
Is this world and its TEMPORARY pleasures more important than the pleasure of our Lord, the One Who sustains us and gives us everything....and, I mean, everything??
Are we not scared of meeting Him??
1) Interest condemns a person to severe punishment:
The Prophet (pbuh) said: Last night I saw two men who came to me and took me out to a holy land. We set out until we came to a river of blood in which a man was standing, and on the bank of the river there was a man with stones in front of him. The man who was in the river came and wanted to get out, but the other man threw a stone in his mouth and he went back to where he had been. Every time he wanted to get out, he threw a stone in his mouth and he went back to where he had been. I said, 'What is this?' He said: 'The one whom you saw in the river is the one who consumed ribaa.'"
2) Interest dooms a person to HELL:
The Prophet (pbuh) said: " 'Avoid the seven sins that doom a person to Hell.'
3) ALL (direct or indirect) dealings of Interest are Haraam:
4)Interest is WORSE than ZINAA:
The Prophet (pbuh) said: " A dirham which a man consumes as ribaa knowingly is worse before Allaah than THIRTY-SIX ACTS OF ZINAA."
5) Interest is like COMMITTING ZINAA WITH YOUR OWN MOTHER!!!
And he (pbuh) said: " There are seventy-two types of ribaa, the least of which is like a man committing incest with his mother."
Yet, despite all the warnings, all the ahadith we read, all the lectures we hear on this topic, WE CONTINUE TO BE DISOBEDIENT....we continue to indulge in our desires, completely disregarding its consequences!
Isn't this world and whatever's in it a mirage and a test for the believers?
Why do you have to BUY a house? You can always rent!
Why do you have to have a FANCY house if you can't afford it? You can always make do with a reasonable place.
Is it worth bringing on Allaah's wrath?
It's not that you and your family were DYING and you had no place to go! That you just HAD to do it!
2. I only did it for my wife/kids
Your family might thank you now, but THEY WILL CURSE YOU ON THE DAY OF JUDGMENT....
" O you who believe! Let not your properties or your children divert you from the remembrance of Allaah. And whosoever does that, then they are the LOSERS."
3. But some scholars say its okay....?
What is haraam is that which has been forbidden by Allaah and His Messenger, and what is halaal is that which has been permitted by Allaah and His Messenger. Just because some SAY it is okay, doesn't make wrong right or right wrong.
4. If it was so wrong, Allah would have punished me long time back....
Just because Allaah is giving you a chance to repent and fix yourself, doesn't mean that it is okay with Allaah for you to do haraam.
" Whenever Allaah intends to do good to a servant, He hastens to punish him in this world. And whenever Allaah intends evil for a servant, He postpones the punishment until the Day of Judgment."
By taking interest-based LOANS for houses/business/cars, etc.
Putting money in interest-based BANK ACCOUNTS (even if you give away the interest),
Working for such banks (even if you don't deal directly with ribaa),
Working for a MOTGAGE COMPANY
Working as a LOAN OFFICER,
Having a balance on your CREDIT CARD that charges interest, etc.
DON'T BE THE ONE WHO TURNS AWAY when reminded of his Lord's verses.
"Who is greater in evil than he who, when reminded of the verses of his Lord, turns away from them and forgets what his hands have sent before him? We have placed veils over their hearts lest they should understand it, and there is heaviness in their ears. Even if you call them to guidance, they will never be guided."
"Surely, in this there is a Reminder for he who has a heart or listens attentively while witnessing."
